Local Stories & Spotlights

The Sourdough Dream: How Wingen Bakery & Restaurant
Won Over Livermore

Wingen Bakery & Restaurant in Livermore is the embodiment of a bold entrepreneurial dream — a story of how two culinary professionals left the fine-dining world to dedicate themselves to craft, quality, and community.

The Story of Risk & Quality

From Fine Dining to Flour Dust: Husband-and-wife team Aimee & Bryan Wingen are true fine-dining veterans.

Aimee worked as Pastry Chef at Homestead (Oakland) and as Sous Chef at Range Life (Livermore), while Bryan managed Homeroom Mac + Cheese in Oakland.

The Bold Pivot: In 2020, the couple launched a small cottage bakery from their home, focusing on one thing — the perfect sourdough loaf. It was a leap of faith: choosing mastery over variety.

Rapid Success: Their bread quickly became a farmers-market favorite, selling out every week at the Livermore Farmers Market — clear proof that the Tri-Valley was ready for true artisanal craftsmanship.

Wingen: A Stylish New Destination

In June 2021, the Wingens opened their brick-and-mortar bakery & restaurant at 50 S Livermore Ave in downtown Livermore — a bright, modern space that beautifully reflects their fine-dining roots.

The “Wow” Factor: Airy, polished, and full of natural light — every detail shows their design sensibility and commitment to quality.

The Offerings: Beyond their iconic sourdough, guests can enjoy croissants, pastries, breakfast and lunch dishes, and their sourdough pizza, already a local favorite.

Local Commitment: Proud Livermore natives, Aimee & Bryan source ingredients locally, keeping their bakery an authentic reflection of the Tri-Valley spirit.

Where Lifestyle Meets Location

Pleasanton in Focus · The Classic Choice

Pleasanton isn’t just a charming suburb — it’s the heartbeat of the Tri-Valley.

Tree-lined streets, timeless architecture, and a downtown that still feels like “Main Street America” — all wrapped around some of the best schools and safest neighborhoods in California.

This city represents everything families come to the Tri-Valley for:

space, community, and a sense of belonging that feels earned, not manufactured.

The Lifestyle

Pleasanton is walkable, warm, and quietly confident. On Saturday mornings, locals fill the Pleasanton Farmers Market, one of the most loved in the East Bay. On summer nights, downtown turns golden — live music, wine tastings, and families out late under the lights.

It’s a place where you’ll still see kids biking to school, parents chatting over coffee at Inklings Café, and friends gathering at Nonni’s Bistro after a Little League game.

What’s getting better: revitalized downtown blocks, upgraded parks, and community events that keep growing every season.

What’s changing: limited new housing and rising prices are nudging some young buyers toward Dublin or Livermore.

The Schools

Education is Pleasanton’s pride. Both Amador Valley High and Foothill High are ranked among the top 2% of schools in California — known for their strong STEM programs, AP courses, and high college acceptance rates.

Elementary and middle schools like Donlon, Vintage Hills, and Harvest Park maintain consistently high ratings (8–10 on GreatSchools).

The trend: steady excellence. While nearby Dublin’s new campuses rise quickly, Pleasanton’s established schools keep their edge through consistent teacher quality and strong parent involvement.

The Neighborhoods

From the historic charm of Downtown Pleasanton to the family energy of Birdland and the luxury of Ruby Hill, the city offers a mix of tradition and sophistication.

  • Ruby Hill — gated, vineyard-view community with country club living.

  • Downtown / Valley Trails — classic Pleasanton character, walkable, cozy, full of charm.

  • Ironwood & Kottinger Ranch — newer builds with parks, wide streets, and high-performing schools nearby.

Market pulse: homes here sell fast — average 20–30 days on market — with prices averaging around $1.47 M (down slightly YoY, but still one of the region’s most stable).

Tri-Valley by the Numbers

🏡 Safety: Pleasanton ranked among California’s Top 25 Safest Cities (Safewise 2025).

🎓 Education: 90 % of Pleasanton schools rated 8 / 10 or higher on GreatSchools.

💰 Real Estate: Median home price ≈ $1.47 M (-7 % YoY) — inventory tight, demand steady.

🚗 Commute: 35–40 min to San Francisco, 25 min to Silicon Valley (average drive).

The Takeaway

Pleasanton is where the Tri-Valley story began — and where it keeps getting refined.

It’s not the newest, it’s not the flashiest, but it’s the benchmark.

A place built on tradition, strengthened by education, and still shaped by families who believe in community.
